An off the beaten path trek to The Sacred City of Machu Picchu. Lares doesn’t include as many Inca ruins as some of the other treks in the region, but it more than compensates with a look at local life and breathtaking scenery. If you want to escape into the wild, experience local living and still challenge yourself on a hike, the Lares Trek may be best suited to you; you’ll feel like you have the Andes to yourself, experiencing some of the most impressive views of the Milky Way and constellations you’ll ever see.

Make sure you double check with your guide about all departure times; specially, the train ride back to Ollantaytambo.

Day 1

Cusco – Lares – Huacawasi

Transfer from Cusco to Lares (2900masl)

Lares hot springs
Hike to Huacahuasi (3,800masl)

Day 2

Huacahuasi – Paso Pachacuti – Amantanay

Breakfast
Hike to Pachacuti Pass (4,450masl)

Descent to Huayrurococha Lagoon
Hike to Amantanay (3900masl)

Day 3

Amantanay – Yanahuara – Ollantaytambo – Aguascalientes

2hr hike Amantanay – Yanahuara (2,900masl)

Transfer to Ollantaytambo train station
Train ride to Aguas Calientes

Day 4

Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco
